Sustainable dishwashing…

A few weeks ago I read an article about sisal rope and how you can use it to make a dishwashing sponge. Sisal is a natural product that can be composted. All you have to do, is to crochet a patch with sisal rope, use it to do your dishes and once it’s worn, you throw it in your compost bin.

I have to admit… It took me a few attempts before I had the result I needed: a patch I can use easily to clean my dishes.

This was the first attempt:

I wanted to crochet a round patch but it looked more like a big knot. Not easy to use in the small corners of some pots or boxes…

This was the second attempt:

Nice flat, but too big and not that flexible…

And this is the final attempt:

I untangled the three threads of the rope, so the rope I use is more thin. This patch is more flexible than the other. And the loop allows me to hang it on the tab to dry…

Combined with an ecological dishwashing soap, this is a good way to do the dishes!
