There we go!

So there we go…

A little over a year ago I moved into a tiny house, for many reasons. I’ll tell you more about that later. Now, after my first year of tiny living, I am ready to take it to the next level.

Before I moved into my tiny house, I lived in a big house with my partner. Before that I lived alone with my cats for 8 years. I realized living alone in one way or another, is important to me. I am highly sensitive and because of that I am easily overwhelmed. To live in a small and clutterfree space, where I have only the essentials and a few extra’s around me, is more calming to my mind than living in a big house, with lots of clutter.

After a long time searching for the best way for both of us to live, I bought myself a tiny house and placed it in the garden of my partners house. Now we have some kind of a LAT going on, where we live really close to eachother. This way we can be together easily and I can be on my own, where it’s quiet and simple, whenever I need it.

I wanted to do this right and not cheat. I could have chosen to leave lots of my stuff in the house and move some belongings to the tiny house. But I wanted to go all the way: I really moved into the tiny house. Everything I need, everything I want to keep is here. The rest is slowly going.

This meant I had to gett rid of a lot of my stuff. I use Mari Kondo’s way to decide what to keep and what to lett go of. I reduced my wardrobe with less than 50% this way! And also all the rest of my stuff has been reduced dramatically.

After a year I found out I didn’t miss anything. Most of the stuff I wanted to lett go of, are still in my partners house. It’s my plan to gett rid of them in 2019. Part will be donated to charity, part will be sold and part will be given to specific friends or familymembers.

This morning I even got rid of some more clothes that I had moved to the tiny house. I checked my tiny wardrobe and found out at least 10 pieces of clothing could be tossed out because I never wear them.

With moving into a tiny house I took on some extra challenges:

  • avoid using plastic as a way to preserve food; go for reusable material
  • avoid using the car too much; public transport and my electrical bike are a good alternative
  • digitize all my administration and all my pictures

I will be sharing more on this later.

After realizing i’ts not that hard to live in a tiny house with less stuff, I want to take on some new challenges:

  • in 2019 I don’t want to buy any stuff at all!
  • in 2019 I want to monitor how much household waste I produce and find ways to reduce it.

You can follow both challenges on this blog.
